Seeing Math Elementary: Discussion

three young kids watching closelyDiscussion plays a vital role in every Seeing Math™ Elementary course, enhancing the impact of case-based learning, fostering collaboration, and building community.

In both face-to-face sessions and in web-based discussion forums, Seeing Math™ Elementary encourages participating teachers to share and discuss questions, observations, and experiences as they relate to the featured topic or case study. Facilitators moderate discussions from the side, channeling contributions to key learning points and ensuring a thoughtful, probing dialogue.

The video case studies at the core of Seeing Math™ Elementary establish a framework for "grounded" discussions, in which the participants base their contributions on specific events portrayed in the case. Provocative discussion fosters among participating teachers a reflective attitude that is instrumental to enriching their practices and improving student learning.
